Ibn Tibbon, Jacob (Don Profiat)
(c. 1230-1312)
   French astronomer, physician, writer and translator. He was born in Marseilles and lived at Montpellier, where he taught medicine at the university. He translated Euclid, Averroes and Al Ghazzali from Arabic into Hebrew. In addition he produced astro-nomical tables, which were translated into Latin and used by Dante for his Divine Comedy. He was a defender of Maimonides.
